How we as citizens should act

The difference between a citizen’s duty and a citizen’s responsibility is a duty is something that a citizen has to do because if not there would be severe consequences. A responsibility on the other hand, is something that a citizen should do. For example, if there is an election and you have a preference on a certain candidate but you don’t vote, you are failing your responsibility as a citizen. A duty though is like a rule, something that as a citizen you are required to abide by. If you don’t abide by those rules then you could end up on house arrest, probation, jail, etc. as a consequence. These types of consequences are frowned upon by society. The duties that are required of us as citizens are listed in the Constitution. Because they are listed in the Constitution being ignorant to these duties are not acceptable. In my opinion, since we are all citizens of the U.S, I think that we should all obey are duties as well as responsibilities because then we can honestly say that we do all that we can as citizens of the United States of America. –And then we also can say in Abraham Lincoln’s words, a “government of the people, by the people, and for the people.”
